VakNieuwsbrief 25-01-2008: Verslag Lotusphere 2008

Gisteren sloot Lotusphere 2008. Zo'n 7000 bezoekers uit de hele wereld, waarvan 150 uit de Benelux,
waren getuige van een aantal belangrijke aankondigingen en gebeurtenissen.
Hieronder voor u samengevat door enkele Snuggers die nu nog in Orlando zijn.

Notes 8.0.1 gold release in Februari 2008, met:
- Web 2.0 features, w.o. widgets (zoals bijv. Google gadgets)
- Lotus Traveler: automatische, real time draadloze push-mail/agenda
- Domino 8.0.1 met verbeterde datacompressie, snelheid, 64-bit support

Lotus Symphony: gold in Q2, blijft gratis
- Symphony, de volledig ODF-compliant office-suite van IBM, is nu al in beta in 24 talen (waaronder Engels)
- Beta 4 verschijnt in Februari, Gold in Q2
- Open voor plug-in developers en open voor integratie in web 2.0-omgevingen
- Kan (indien gewenst) apart van Notes 7 of 8 worden gebruikt

Notes / Domino vervolg 2008:
- V. 8.5 aangekondigd voor H2-2008
- Client versies voor Ubuntu en Apple Mac
- Lotusphere is reeds georganiseerd tot en met 2015 in Orlando

- Aanval van IBM op het MKB van 5-500 werknemers
- Complete set software-servers met pre-installed: Lotus Domino mail and collaboration, file management,
directory services, firewall, back-up and recovery, en office productivity tools.
- Geschikt voor system integrators en ISV's om op Lotus Foundations eigen applicaties te bouwen of te integreren.
- Een sleutelcomponent in Lotus Foundations is de recent aangeschafte technologie van Net Integration Technologies

Nieuw: IBM Lotus Bluehouse
- Volledige set social en team software, aangeboden als SaaS (Software as as Service)
- Aanvulling op Lotus Foundations

Nieuw: Lotus Protector
- IBM kondigt een 'black box' server aan die uw volledige security regelt: firewall, antispam en anti-virus

Veel Web 2.0 "ready for business" elementen Notes en SameTime
- In zowel Notes 8.0.1, 8.5, en SameTime 8 (en verder) zien we een sterke toename van Web 2.0-aspecten, "ready for business"
- SameTime bijvoorbeeld biedt meer unified communication en collaboration opties en
groter gemak voor vinden, bereiken en samenwerken.
- Notes wordt als "desktop of the future" een steeds sterkere client dankzij composite applications / mashups en end-user opties voor bijv. gadgets van derden
